Last Sunday saw father and son Oisin Gillespie and Aidan Gillespie play a pivotal role in the Donegal team who competed at the National League Preliminary Day in Tullamore.
The Donegal team secured silver as well as a place in the finals on July 27th. Rosses also had further involvement with Michael Logue being the County Team Manager.
This was the first time that the County Board has entered a team in the County section of the National League. The team was made up of athletes from Letterkenny, Killybegs, Rosses, Cranford, Milford and Lifford-Strabane athletic clubs.
Oisin was one of 5 winners to secure full points off the team as he jumped 1.75m to secure top jumper on the day and good preparation for All Ireland u17s next weekend. Aidan was there to support Oisin but with an athlete having to leave early the team needed someone to step up and compete in the Weight For Distance. Credit to Aidan for putting his hand up. Not an event that Aidan has done before but his work in the gym was to show as he exceeded expectations securing 5th place and valuable points for the team.
To add to our club involvement on the day we also had Rosaleen and Cormac McGarvey as well as Lorraine Doherty on official duty. Well done to all.
