As temperatures begin to rise again, Gardaí are urging the Donegal public to report missing or stolen life rings.
Ring buoys are vital pieces of life saving equipment and it is so important that such equipment is present in the case of an emergency.
“We ask the public to notify Gardaí or Water Safety Ireland if they ever notice that a ring buoy is missing from its stand, damaged or if they observe any incidents involving the misuse/theft of this type of safety equipment,” a garda spokesperson said.
They also offered the following advice for staying safe this weekend if you visit a beach:
- Never swim alone.
- Always swim parallel to the shore.
- Never use inflatables.
- Always swim in front of the Lifeguard Station.
- Check the tides times.
- Check the weather.
- Speak to the locals if you are not familiar with a particular bathing spot before entering the water.
Remember, if you ever see someone in trouble in or near the water please dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard.
