UK chart-topper George Ezra has enlisted three of Donegal’s top talents for a special concert in his hometown of Hertford this September.
Ezra, who is no stranger to Donegal, has selected an incredible line-up for a Hertford x Donegal showcase, including trad artist Cathal ó Curráin from Gaoth Dobhair, McGrath (Mick Russell from Rathmullan) and his former bandmate Matt Benson, from Rostrevor, who now lives in Falcarragh.
The show is already a sell-out success, with the BEAM theatre set to be at full capacity on 3rd September.
“One of the things that I loved most about touring was exploring the towns and cities that we visited. Even if just for a day or two, you’d soon pick up on the individual spirit and personality of each place,” Ezra wrote.
“And that is what we hope to bring to BEAM on the 3rd of September with our Hertford x Donegal concert. We have put together an evening showcasing some of the finest musical talent that Ireland’s rugged north coast has to offer.”
The show has been designed for lovers of live music, good company, and places with a story to tell.
Praising the line-up, Ezra wrote: “From Cathal ó Curráin who breaths new life into traditional songs to McGrath, a young singer-songwriter who is at the beginning of what I imagine will be a long and exciting journey in music.
“And, I am personally extremely proud to include Matthew Benson on the bill. Myself and Matthew toured the world together over many years with Matthew playing trombone in my own band. These days he is writing, recording and performing his own material which is unrivalled in its charisma and charm.”
Hertford Quarter is an exciting new venture of Ezra’s, celebrating the creative spirit of his home county of Hertfordshire.
George Ezra is best known for his string of upbeat, chart-topping hits that blend folk, pop, and blues influences. His most successful tracks include “Budapest” and the catchy UK number one “Shotgun.”
With the Donegal collaboration, Ezra is hoping that the audience will lose themselves in the “songs and sounds of the enchanted county”.
