It has been reported that local Fianna Fáil members are backing Pat the Cope Gallagher for the party’s nomination for the upcoming presidential election.
Today’s Tirconaill Tribune is reporting that lobbying efforts for adding the veteran Donegal TD on the ticket have intensified in recent weeks.
Fianna Fáil is due to decide in September who will get the nomination.
Deputy Gallagher was not contactable this morning.
A local party source said they weren’t sure if he was interested in the nomination, but is being favoured because of his “experience, age and common sense.”
