Members of the Bundoran RNLI lifeboat have issued a stern reminder to the public about the dangers of parking in restricted “yellow box” areas.
It’s after the doors of the lifeboat station were almost completely blocked yesterday by parked cars, with many making their way to the seaside to enjoy the recent spell of good weather.
A similar warning was issued by the Lough Swilly RNLI after a similar incident in Buncrana earlier this Summer where a car blocked the space outside their lifeboat station.
Yesterday, five separate vehicles were parked in the area outside Bundoran’s lifeboat station, including a pickup truck and a van.
They are urging all members of the public to respect parking rules and to NEVER park within the yellow lines outside of a lifeboat station – as that area must be clear if the lifeboat is required to respond to an emergency.
“Please don’t park in or block the yellow box outside the lifeboat station. That space is critical for us to launch quickly in an emergency, (and) very second counts when lives are at risk,” the Bundoran RNLI said.
“At busy times on the pier, it’s easy to miss the fact that our volunteers rely on clear access so we can launch the boat. Please remember that rules and warnings on signs aren’t just suggestions — they’re there to help save lives.”
“Your awareness and cooperation can make all the difference in a critical moment. Thanks for helping us keep everyone safe!”
