Members of the public are being reminded to take proper steps to protect themselves and others this weekend as the mercury has topped 30 degrees celsius in Donegal.

A nationwide warning for high temperatures has been issued by Met Eireann, with this weekend’s glorious conditions also bringing some potential risks.

The national weather forecaster has warned of the increased probability of forest fires and wildfires, and also the potential for water safety issues with many taking to beaches and lakes over the weekend.

They are also reminding the public to take steps to protect themselves from heat stress and sunburn across the weekend, with temperatures potentially reaching 28 degrees on Sunday also.

Met Eireann’s weather advisory will be in place until 6pm on Sunday evening.

Next week’s forecast looks a tad more unsettled, with temperatures dipping down into the high teens and early twenties along with the presence of more persistent rain showers too.
