Safety concerns have been raised over a non-slip surface that has almost completely worn away on the outskirts of Letterkenny.
There is currently no funding available to replace the worn surface on the Leck Road approaching the Cullion Crossroads.
Councillor Donal Coyle had asked the council this week to undertake replacement works and to reinstate the faded road markings at the junction.
He was told that there is currently no funding available but that a cost estimate will be prepared and funding opportunities will be sought.
Cllr Coyle stated that the non-slip surface was “badly needed” on the road because of the number of accidents at the junction over the years.
He acknowledged that the surface was replaced not so long ago, but due to the large volume of heavy traffic coming from the concrete plant at the junction, the surface “doesn’t last any length of time”.
Cllr Coyle urged the council to identify potential funding streams and explore options to improve visibility at the crossroads.
The matter was raised at Tuesday’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
Senior Roads Engineer David McIlwaine confirmed that a safety assessment for the area would be considered.
Meanwhile, surfacing works on the Lismonaghan/Ballyboe Road are programmed to be carried out in September.
