Water outages in Fanad expected to continue into tomorrow

Water outages affecting the Fanad area are expected to continue into tomorrow according to Uisce Éireann.

The water utilities provider says that the outages are a result of water shortages in the area.

In a statement released this evening, Uisce Éireann said that the outages have been caused by a combination of high demand and low water levels in local reservoirs.

“Uisce Éireann is advising of supply disruptions which are affecting the Fanad area of Donegal this evening,” they said via a statement released on their website.

“High demand on the network coupled with low reservoir levels will result in water shortages for customers in the area.”

“Both water treatment plants serving the Fanad area are operating at their maximum capacity, while water levels at both the Ballinacrick and Croghan Reservoirs are critically low.”

“Customers in Portsalon, Magherawarden, and Croghan are likely to be affected by these outages throughout this evening and into tomorrow (Monday).”

Uisce Éireann say that every effort is being made to restore water supply as soon as possible.

In a statement John Gallagher, the Uisce Éireann Technical Operations Lead for Donegal, said that:

“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while we allow time for the reservoirs to recharge.”

You can keep track of the outage status and any potential return times for water supply via their supply and service updates webpage.
