Fanad’s Under 15 girls’ soccer team have been crowned Ulster Community Games Champions following a thrilling victory over Cootehill from Cavan at the Peace Link in Monaghan on Sunday.
Fanad took a narrow one-goal lead into the half-time interval. Cootehill from Cavan emerged with renewed vigour in the second half, but the Fanad girls proved too much for their opponents.
Chloe Kennedy McLaughlin’s excellent saves were crucial in securing the victory.
Joint managers Una Sweeney and Marty McAteer were delighted with their team’s performance.
Ulster PRO Tony McCarry lauded the achievement, stating it was “a proud day for Fanad and indeed for Donegal” within the Community Games framework. He extended his best wishes to the triumphant team as they now prepare to represent Ulster at the National Community Games finals, which will be held in Carlow at a date yet to be confirmed.
