The volunteer crew of Arranmore RNLI have experienced one of their busiest weeks so far this year responding to five launch requests from Malin Head Coast Guard.
The calls varied from medical evacuations, NowDoc (Northwest doctor on call) transfer to Arranmore and a call for assistance to people in difficulty on the water, which our colleagues in the Bunbeg Coast Guard helped rescue.
The station also welcomed new crew member Dan Mac A’Bhaird (Sailor).
Dan, whose parents come from Arranmore is in his final year at Colaiste Ailigh, Letterkenny.
From his early years Dan always wanted to join the lifeboat and has now sent off his application form to begin training with the RNLI.
Dan’s uncles and cousins all volunteered with the Arranmore lifeboat and his uncle John Sailor is currently on the crew.
John said “I’m very proud to have Dan join the crew and continue the family tradition. It is great to see young people join this great rescue service.
“The training is extensive and will serve them well in the future, being part of a team that work and train closely together to save lives is a very positive part of your CV which future employers will appreciate.’
