A public meeting is being sought to address long-running water issues in north west Donegal.
Residents and businesses of Falcarragh and Gortahork have experienced near-constant water outages since last Friday.
The disruption during the peak holiday season has led to urgent calls for emergency tankers and investment to address the problem.
Councillor Michael McClafferty says Uisce Eireann’s handling of the situation has been hugely disappointing. He said a public meeting must be held to put questions to the company.
“We, the Councillors for the Glenties area, are calling for an immediate public meeting with Uisce Éireann this week to discuss how they propose to address the current situation of constant water outages in our area,” said Cllr McClafferty.
Uisce Eireann says the problems are due to very high seasonal demand coupled with several burst water supply mains in the Gortahork and Falcarragh areas.
A spokesperson confirmed to Donegal Daily: “We are currently implementing nighttime restrictions in order to replenish water supply reservoirs at night.
“Operations crew together with contractors are prioritising burst repairs and we expect normal supply to be restored in the coming days.
“In the interim, some elevated properties in these areas may experience intermittent water supply interruptions.”
