A water tankers and bottled water are being provided on Gola Island after an undersea pipeline burst.

The island off the coast of Gweedore has been without water supply since Monday, when the mains pipe under the sea bed ruptured.

Up to forty properties are impacted.

Uisce Éireann’s Damien O’Sullivan said the issue is a complex repair due to the logistical challenges of the submarine infrastructure.

“We encourage people to avoid unnecessary travel near affected infrastructure marked with buoys in the bay, and to conserve stored water where possible.”
