Donegal star Daniel O’Donnell has confirmed he’s in ‘great shape’, despite fake posts online which aim to shock fans into engaging with scammers.
The 63-year-old singing legend, who has announced an upcoming break from touring due to health challenges, says that social media posts have been portraying him as being at death’s door.
“There are so many things on primarily Facebook, but not just about me. I have seen so many people, different celebrities, in a bed with tubes and dying,” he shared when he appeared on The Six O’Clock Show on Virgin Media Television.
“Now, I am taking a break from touring next year. I have had allergies and chest infections, but if I wasn’t singing it wouldn’t be any bother at all.
“But thank God I am in good shape. I just decided to take a break and plug in for a while.”
He urged all his fans to be careful about what they read online and what pages contact them.
“Even if you think it’s me that’s writing to you, it won’t be me.”
Daniel’s plea to viewers was so direct that host Darren Kennedy asked if he was running for President, as he could picture him in the Aras!
“You can pull that one out of the picture anyway!” Daniel replied.
Daniel will continue his touring commitments until December 2025 but will be scaling back his busy career in the New Year.
Daniel will still host his annual Opry le Daniel shows on TG4.
Additionally, in September 2026, he will perform as he has for many years on Gertrude Byrne’s Mediterranean Cruise. These will be his only confirmed performances for the year.
