A local Senator has called for the M1 toll fee to be lifted for Donegal fans travelling to and from the All-Ireland final.
Speaking in the Seanad yesterday, Sen Manus Boyle, said the fee should be ‘done away with’ for those using the motorway on Sunday week.
On the morning of the quarter final against Monaghan, there was a 10km tailback at one stage.
Addressing the Leader of the Seanad, Seán Kyne, Sen Boyle said maybe he could arrange for the national tolls to be done away with on Sunday for those travelling from Donegal.
“We have to pay for everything and it would be great if we could get through and down to Dublin without paying tolls,” he said.
“It is a costly day for every family and there will be four and five from every house travelling. I do not think there will be anybody left in Donegal. They will all be down. It is a proud day for Donegal and I am delighted that the team is in the final. We will give the Cathaoirleach’s team a run for it; that is one sure thing.”
In response, an unsympathetic Cathaoirleach, Kerry’s Mark Daly, said: “Sure you are only second favourites”.
