Watch: What happens when a Kerryman ‘cops’ a Donegal supporter in Toronto!

A chance meeting on the streets of Toronto in Canada has led to a new friendship between a Donegal woman and a ‘Kerry’ cop on the eve of the All-Ireland Final.

Letterkenny woman Clare O’Brien was waiting in traffic shortly after Jim McGuinness’ team booked their place in the GAA centrepiece at Croke Park.

The proud young Donegal woman just happened to be still wearing her county jersey when a Toronto policeman cycled by in traffic.

The eagle-eyed lawman spotted the jersey, leaned in the car window and shouted ‘Up Kerry.’

The brief encounter got the pair chatting and, in a very Irish way, it was like they knew each other for years.

The cop turned out to be Conor Holly, a Canadian cop whose father is from Kerry and mother is from Belfast.

Clare’s well-known mother Connie McGranaghan from Letterkenny posted the brief roadside encounter on Instagram and TikTok and it has gone viral.

Gentleman Conor chatted to the Donegal crew for ages before inviting them down to his local station in Toronto for a tour.

Connie said that Conor couldn’t have been nicer and even gave the women little gifts to remember their encounter.

“He is such a nice guy. He is so proud of his Irish roots. The only downside was that he still thinks poor Kerry have a chance of lifting Sam Maguire this year.

“I didn’t have the heart to tell him that the Toronto heat must have finally got to him. Anyway, we had the best time and it was just a lovely chance encounter,” she told Donegal Daily.

And not to let the opportunity pass Connie had another message for readers – just in case……

“Wouldn’t it be lovely if some reader had two spare tickets for the All Ireland Final so we could get Clare and Conor there for the day to see for themselves who wins?#8221;
