Powerful poem gets behind Donegal’s push for Sam!

One Donegal fan has penned a special poem as they again are set to descend on Croke Park with their eyes on the Sam Maguire Cup.

“The Final Day” is written by Celine McCann, who has been inspired by Donegal’s run through the Championship this year.

Hopefully her beloved county can bring home Sam to the hills again.

The Final Day – Celine McCann

Donegal are on their way

To croke park for final day.

They’ll have the Kerry lads in a spin

For Jimmy’s men are determined to win.

It will be the greatest match,

For Jimmy has a plan to hatch.

The Glenties man is the greatest of all,

Playing himself for Donegal

When they won Sam in 92′

So he knows what they’ve got to do.

Michael Murphy the legend of a man

Will have them roaring in the stand.

When he puts the ball in the back of the net

Scoring plenty you can bet.

Doing it all for the green and gold.

Who said this man’s getting old?

And Langan out from really far

Willl shoot 2 pointers over the bar.

Shaun Patton he’s the best goalie of all,

He’ll have no problems saving that ball.

Then kicking it out to the boys in midfield,

As they race for Kerry’s goal with great zeal.

McBrearty and Roarty racing up the pitch,

Will up the scoreboard without a hitch.

Over the bar or in the back of the net,

For they’ll need all the scores they can get.

To keep Kerry’s dreams far away,

For this is going to be Donegal’s day.

The Cliffords on the Kerry side

Won’t give Donegal an easy ride.

But Shane and Conor they better watch,

For they’ll be scoring in this match.

Shooting points way up high

As the Kerry dreams fade and die.

As the final hooter in Croke Park sounds,

Sam is sure to be Donegal bound.

For this Donegal team are on fire,

They’re taking home Sam Maguire.

They’ll take him back where he belongs,

For he’s been away far too long.

In the hills where he’ll sit proud,

And be greeted by the crowds.

All of them cheering for the team,

Who have fulfilled all of their dreams.

The atmosphere and mighty craic,

We’re all so glad to have Sam back.

The county covered in green and gold,

Happy faces young and old.

For this has been a wonderful ride,

The team and Jimmy stand with pride.

As the Armagh team hand over their crown,

For the boys to take back to Donegal Town.

To the Abbey hotel their fans to meet,

Lined with people all over the street.

So Donegal enjoy your year,

You’ve all worked hard to bring Sam here.

It’s time now for a bit of a rest,

You’ve  proved this year you are the best.
