A large crowd gathered at the Church of Mary Immaculate Stranorlar this morning for the funeral of well-liked businessman, Charlie Bonner.
Charlie was a giant figure in the Twin Towns and beyond, known as the founder of Charles Bonner and Sons and The Stove Store, suppliers of heating and plumbing systems for over half a century.
The Donegal Road native was also known as one of the area’s great characters, always providing a smile and giving time to tell a famous story or two.
During his homily at the funeral service today, parist priest Fr Kieran McAteer paid tribute to Charlie.
“Charlie was a man who made people of all kinds feel very welcome, (and was) well known throughout the county and far beyond.
“I was told earlier this week that Charlie’s motto was this: fall out with as few people as possible.”
“Charlie was a real people’s person, he was a master storyteller.”
“He brought joy to so many people.”
