The driver of a van has been arrested after failing to stop and leading Gardaí on a high-speed early morning chase through Inishowen.

Gardaí from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were operating a checkpoint in Bridgend in the early hours of this morning, when a van approached the checkpoint and then failed to stop.

According to Gardaí, the van was then driven in a dangerous mannger for a distance across Inishowen, before a stinger device was deployed which successfully stopped the van.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, with Gardaí saying the driver had no driver’s licence or insurance also – meaning that the van was seized.

The passenger of the van was also arrested while on foot, due to having an outstanding bench warrant before the courts.
