Donegal County Council’s July plenary meeting was adjourned this morning in memory of four people who passed away in the county in recent weeks.
The meeting paused for five minutes to allow councillors to remember Carndonagh mother Natalie McLaughlin, 27, and her eldest daughter Ella, 6, following a tragic collision in Glentogher on the 2nd of July.
“It was a very difficult time in the community and an extremely difficult time for all the family and wider family circles in Carndonagh, Moville and Glengad,” said Cllr McDermott.
Cllr McDermott acknowledged the work that the emergency services did on that evening of the accident.
Councillor Albert Doherty also shared sympathies with all the friends and relations following the tragedy.
“Our sympathies and supports in these difficult times will remain constant with the family,” said Cllr Doherty.
Cllr Doherty also acknowledged the emergency services and highlighted the personnel of Altnagelvin and the Royal Victoria Hospital who cared for the victims.
“We lost prized family members and we tend our sympathies to them,” said Cllr Doherty.
Councillor Ciaran Brogan asked for the adjournment to also remember the late Gavin Burke from Newtowncunningham, a member of the Donegal County Council’s Culture Division, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 49.
Cllr Brogan said: “I know he (Gavin) has family members employed at the council. It’s a difficult time for his family and indeed our own staff in the council who worked with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Burke family for the late Gavin, may he rest in peace.”
Mr Burke will be laid to rest on Tuesday 22nd July, following Funeral mass in All Saints Church Newtowncunningham at 12noon.
Cllr Michael McClafferty of the Glenties MD added sympathies for the family of Edgar Scott, Horn Head, Dunfanaghy and Magheralin, Craigavon, Co. Armagh who died suddenly in Falcarragh last week.
The Funeral Service for Mr Scott took place in Dunfanaghy Presbyterian Church on Saturday, 19th July.
