The cost of live streaming Donegal County Council meetings reached €22,500 over the past year, it has been revealed.
A total of 23 council meetings were broadcast live online and on the Council’s Facebook page from 1st July 2024 and 30th June 2025.
These streams, averaging two per month, amounted to approximately 73 hours of content.
The expense, as outlined to Councillor Fionán Bradley today, covers services for software licensing, hardware support and replacement, and live meeting technical assistance which is provided externally.
Live-streaming of meetings also requires in-house technical support from two staff members on meeting days.
The live streams draw an average of 10,000 views on Facebook.
All meetings are also archived and available for viewing at https://donegalcoco.public-i.tv
While Plenary meetings, AGMs and Special Plenary Meetings on Housing are live-streamed, there have been calls for meetings of the Defective Concrete Block Committee to also be streamed live as a matter of public interest.
