Donegal County Council is set to demand more resources for gardaí to tackle anti-social driving across the county.
The matter was brought before the council today by Muff-based councillor Terry Crossan, who says it’s “only a matter of time” until there are serious consequences to this type of behaviour.
“There has been an increase in the number of very serious incidents of dangerous and anti-social driving, especially in our small urban areas and in public places,” Cllr Crossan said.
“There needs to be a more visual garda presence and a more proactive approach by them to stamp out this behaviour.”
Cllr Crossan asked the council to write to the Garda Chief Superintendent, demanding that more resources be made available to gardaí to address this very serious issue.
He was seconded by Cllr Albert Doherty, who said that the garda station in his own town of Carndonagh is an example of the need for investment in more adequate and modern facilities for gardaí.
“It’s a timely issue and I would like to ensure that gardaí have adequate and modern services to deal with this,” said Cllr Doherty.
