Improvements are on the way for new pedestrian crossings across Ballybofey and Stranorlar.
Donegal County Councillors today gave Part 8 approval to the carrying out of works on a scheme which will upgrade crossings at eight locations in the Twin Towns.
Safety concerns have been repeatedly raised over new pedestrian crossings installed across Ballybofey and Stranorlar as part of a pilot scheme in 2023.
The upcoming works will see one of the most controversial crossings at the N15/Glenfin Junction on Ballybofey Main Street (pictured above) moved to another location below the Bank of Ireland.
The new crossing will have a raised table, belisha beacons, localised street lighting and relevant signing and lining to improve visibility and provide traffic calming measures.
Another problematic crossing at the N15/ Ard McCool in Stranorlar will also be redesigned to include a raised table, localised street lighting and relevant signing and lining.
The works involve the addition of four raised tables at certain locations.
One existing uncontrolled pedestrian crossing at the bus stop (outside the Balor Arts Centre) will be upgraded with a four-metre-wide crossing with a central refuge island on a raised platform.
Modifications will be made at three other locations, focusing on upgrading existing footpaths to meet current standards.
