This week, Letterkenny welcomes the NZEB (Near Zero Energy Building) Retrofit Mobile Training Unit—bringing free, hands-on training and expert advice to local homeowners.
The initiative, led by Donegal Local Development CLG (DLDC) in partnership with Mount Lucas and LOETB, is designed to help people make their homes more energy-efficient, comfortable, and future-ready.
With rising energy costs and new housing standards, improving energy performance is already a priority for many. But for homeowners affected by defective concrete blocks, there’s an added layer of complexity—navigating structural repairs while trying to access energy grants and retrofit support.
To address this, DLDC is hosting a special information session on Wednesday, 23rd July from 4pm to 6pm at ATU Letterkenny.
The event, facilitated by Neil Gallagher of DLDC, will focus on practical support for homeowners dealing with defective blocks. Representatives from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) will also be on hand to provide guidance on available grants and retrofit options—particularly for homes undergoing repair or reconstruction.
As well as expert talks, there will be information on green loans available through local Credit Unions, and throughout the week, drop-in clinics will offer free, personalised advice on everything from insulation upgrades to BER ratings.
This event is free and open to all members of the public. If you or someone you know is affected by defective blocks—or simply wants to learn more about making their home more energy-efficient—this is a vital chance to connect with support services and get reliable information.
