Clonmany man admits serious assault on man in Buncrana

July 23, 2025

A Clonmany man has pleaded guilty to seriously assaulting a man in Buncrana.

Ciaran McEleney admitted assaulting Laren McGilloway and causing him harm.

McEleney spoke only to plead guilty when he was formally arraigned before Judge Roderick Maguire at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

The 26-year-old, of Gortaran, Clonmany, is charged in connection with an incident on September 17, 2023 at West End, Buncrana.

Mr Peter Nolan BL, barrister for McEleney, told the court that there were other three District Court appeal matters which are to be heard in the Circuit Court.

Mr Nolan asked that these matters travel with the assault case and that they be adjourned until October.

Mr Nolan asked that a probation report be prepared for McEleney.

Judge Maguire made orders to that effect and asked that the probation report include an assessment for suitability for community service.

The case was adjourned until October and McEleney was remanded on continuing bail.
