A brave Donegal fan who is battling cancer has received a generous box upgrade for this weekend’s All-Ireland Final.
Yesterday, we highlighted the story of Andrew McMenamin here on Donegal Daily after he put out an appeal on social media seeking to swap his All-Ireland Final tickets for some box seats due to health concern.
The 35-year-old award-winning farmer from Castlefinn is currently receiving chemotherapy treatments, and asked via social media if a swap for his two stand tickets at Croke Park was available.
Due to health concerns with the large crowds expected to be attending GAA HQ for the Final, Andrew asked if anyone wished to swap their box seats with him, in order to reduce the number of people he would be in potential contact with while attending the game.
“Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone can help, I have recently started chemo and I need to reduce my time in large crowds,” Andrew posted yesterday.
“I wonder if anyone knows where, or how, I could get two box tickets for the All-Ireland final. I have two seated tickets that could be used to swap with, and before anyone asks they are not for sale, swap only! Please share as this would allow me to attend and reduce the risk on my illness. Thanks.”
His club, Robert Emmets also shared the appeal – and less than 24 hours later a swap was found.
An anonymous individual from Donegal has stepped up and offered Andrew his box seats in a supremely kind gesture.
“Good news, a Donegal businessman has kindly agreed to swap his tickets in an executive box for the final, really appreciate his gesture!,” Andrew said this afternoon.
“Thanks everyone for sharing my post and getting it out there, the power of community was great.”
“I’m overwhelmed by all the support and well wishes from everyone and final thanks to my club Robert Emmets for all the work in making this happen!”
This is indeed proof that the power of community is still well and alive, especially when it comes to our shared love of the national game – and Donegal.
