FRESH doubt is being cast on the possibility of the Ulster senior club football championship going ahead this Sunday.
Ulster GAA Council Secretary Danny Murphy said the re-arranged clash between Naomh Conaill of Glenties and Crossmaglen Rangers, due for Clones after being postponed last Sunday, may be postponed again.
Said Murphy today: “We’ve moved all of the fixtures from last Sunday up to this weekend at the same time and venue but I wouldn’t be optimistic about them going ahead.
“There’s been a lot of snow and temperatures of minus-eight and minus-nine have been recorded in several places in the province.”
The harsh weather has reignited the debate on the timing of provincial finals.
Former Donegal star Martin McHugh said the timing of county and provincial deciders should be re-examined.
However Murphy insisted: “I think we’re getting too excited about the prospect of harsher conditions becoming feature of this time of year. Fixtures are often disrupted.”
