Finn Valley AC has launched their annual Stephen’s Day 5k run/walk /jog, the 40th annual organisation of an event that began all those years ago with maybe a dozen hardy souls meeting in Drumboe Woods to organise a run.

Now it has become a popular community event reaching out to all in the community a challenge that families and individuals have undertaken in what is now an established must do during the Christmas period in East Donegal.

The largest turnout ever was in 2008 when close to 800 turned out while even in atrocious weather that was the norm over the festive period in 2009, 430 participated.

The approach in 2010 is simply a 5k not the traditional handicap format with various charities on board on this occassion generating their own funds towards their particular cause. The target is 1000 and you are encouraged to indicate your participation for logistics purposes by contacting rundonegal@gmail.com  or alternatively enter on the day from 11 am.

The course record men is held by Mo Farah current European champion at 13.29.68 in 2006  while the womens record is held by world champion Vivian Cheruiyot ,Kenya 16-14 though in reality its an event for the entire community to which Finn Valley ac extend a warm welcome. www.finnvalleyac.com or join our many friends  on facebook at finnvalleyac ( 0872226112 ) .
