LETTERKENNY ATHLETICS CLUB WEEKLY NOTES: (JAN 5)
THE action this weekend will be in Stormont where our team will compete in the Ulster Masters-Intermediate Championship’s on Sunday.
Club captain, Gary Crossan is hoping to have a strong team for the event and is hopeful of doing very well. Tickets are available from club members for the Pantomime which takes place on Wednesday, January 26. We’d appeal to all members and their families to support this fundraising venture and get tickets as soon as possible.
There will be a 10 mile road race in Craughwell, Galway on March 20th. It is organised by Patrick Cosgrove, a brother of our own Paul Cosgrove and he is hoping to bring a team down from Letterkenny for the event. Anybody interested can give him a bell on 086 2652711 or email me on paul.a.cosgrove@gsk.com. Team prizes are decided by mixed team results so it makes it an interesting challenge.
One hundred athletes put their toe to the line for the annual 5K Turkey Trot in Letterkenny on Sunday.
The race-fun run was a great success. Letterkenny’sPauric McKinney was first man across the line in a time of 16.12 followed by clubmates, Ivan Toner 16.18 and the ever improving Gavin Crawford (16.35).
The first woman to cross the line was Joanne English in a time of 18.54 followed by Theresa Doherty 19.36 and Ailish Patton 21.46. Our own Kevin Ferry predicted his time at exactly 17.30 while others to win vouchers on the day included Garvan McCloskey, Vera Haughey, Patrick McConaghey, John Cannon, Ciaran Gallagher, T Thompson and Patrick Sweeney.
Club Chairman, Gerry Davenport said the turnout of 100 (97 finishers) was encouraging given the fact the race had been rescheduled after falling foul to the inclement weather before Christmas.
“We’re very happy with the turnout. We had 70 runners last year so the entry was well up,” he said.
Numbers drawn were 1, 5, 18 and 21. One match 3 John Coleman won €80. next weeks jackpot is €1,160
