COWEN COULD GO TODAY: BUT BLANEY AND COUGHLAN BACK TAOISEACH

Tanaiste Mary Coughan and Deputy Niall Blaney are standing by Brian Cowen, despite claims the Taoiseach will quit today.

However several senior party members in both Donegal constituencies have told donegaldaily.com that they want Cowen to quit.

And they believe Coughlan should ‘do the decent thing’ and tell him to go.

In fact so senior are the party members – some of them close to Coughlan – who want Cowen to go, it appears the entire party membership in both constituencies want to fight the election without Cowen as leader.

A senior party member in the county with links to both constituencies said today: “Cowen will probably go today, though Mary and Niall wanted him to stay on.

“The party is doomed with Cowen as leader and hopefully I’m hearing from Dublin that he will stand down and will not lead us into the election. That is good news for the party.”
