ONE of Donegal’s most loyal servants in recent years, Brendan Devenney, has been forced to finally hang up his boots.
The St.Eunan’s man, now 32, has lost his battle with a nagging hip injury.
Devenney has been gone from the county scene but he was hoping to carry on for Eunans for another couple of season at least.
The Newtowncunningham native, also a fine soccer player, burst onto the scene in 1998, and was renowned for his swagger and accuracy in front of the posts.
His finest hour was not in the county jersey but perhaps playing for his Letterkenny club when he scored an amazing 14 points as Eunans beat old Aodh Rua to claim the Dr Maguire Cup in 1999.
He holds a record for appearing in ten county finals in twelve years between 1997 and 2009.
He also played for Ireland in the International Rules series against Australia and was capped for Donegal more than 100 times.
