PORTSALON GOLF CLUB NOTES

Course Improvements

Under the watchful eye of golf professional Paul Mc Ginley over the past few months many new and improved development works have been undertaken by the greens staff at Portsalon Golf Course.

Many of the changes include the re development and inclusion of bunkers on the 7th, 10, 11th and 15th greens. Other changes are ongoing and the captain Donal Callaghan and council appreciate the cooperation from members and visitors during this time of change.

The general comments among the many golfers who played are all positive and approve of the development work undertaken.

Mulroy Links

The Mulroy Links is now fast approaching its conclusion for the 2010/2011 season and with only two outings remaining two at Rosapenna and one at Portsalon the competition is intense for the prestigious golfer of the year.

The current standings in both the nett and gross sections are as follows: Gross Barry Mc Gettigan with 16 points, 2nd Derek O’Neill 12 points, 3rd Dara Mc Menamin 10 points and 4th Pat Boyce and Seamus Clinton 11 points. In the nett section the leader is Chuck Mc Taggart with 13 points, 2nd David Bonner 9 points, 3rd Denis Mc Bide 8 points and 4th Gerard Mc Gettigan 6 points.

The results from Rosapenna Golf Club on Saturday last the results were as follows; in the gross section the winner was Pat Boyce (6) 35 points, 2nd Barry Mc Gettigan (2) 34 points, 3rd Derek O’Neill (2) 33 points, 4th Patrick Kennedy (2) 30 points 5th Eddie Mc Cleary (7) 28 points.

In the nett section Shane Sweeney (13) Portsalon was the winner with 40 points from Denis Mc Bride (9) with 38 points, 3rd Denis Boyce (12 ) 38 points, 4th Willie Russell (22) 36 points, 5th Charlie Mc Bride (15 ) 36 points.

The next outing of the Mulroy Links will take place at Rosapenna Golf Club on Saturday 12th March.

Results.

The winner of the open staged on Wednesday 2nd March Mick Bowe playing off a 24 handicap Mick returned 37 points to collect his first win at Portsalon Golf Club.

I 2nd place Shaun Shields (14) 36 points, Gross Seamus Patton (5) 27 points 3rd Eamon McConigley (110 35 points The CSS was 35 points. In the members competition on Sunday last playing in ideal weather conditions and the scoring reflected the excellent conditions.

The winner was 11 handicapper Rory Kenney with 41 points, 2nd Kevin Mc Fadden (20 ) 40 points Gross Barry Mc Gettigan (2) 33 points, 3rd Shaun Gibson (16) 40 points. The CSS was 37 points.

Events

On Sunday 13th March there is a member’s competition. On Wednesday 16th March an open gents 18 hole stableford competition and on St Patrick’s Day 17th March there is a Ladies and Gents open 18 hole stableford competition. Mulroy Links

The next outing of the Mulroy Links will take place at Rosapenna Golf Club on Saturday 12th March. The remaining Mulroy Links events will be Saturday 26th March at Portsalon and the Links Captains Day at Rosapenna on Saturday 9th April. All Mulroy Links members please note that the time sheet remains as per the previous competitions.

If you are unable to play please inform the clubhouse either at Portsalon or Rosapenna Golf Clubs.

Membership

The council wish to remind all members that their fees for the 2011 golfing year are now due. An early payment would be appreciated.

Winter placing

Members and visitors should note that there is 6 inch placing on all fairways.
