Match Report

Downings Bay Hotel U16

League Div 1

Buncrana       7.11     2.06     McCumhaills

The home side continued their good start to the season following this convincing win over Sean McCumhaills in almost Siberian conditions at The Scarvey on Sunday morning.  Playing against the wind, James Quigley opened the scoring for Buncrana with a goal after just two minutes and a second goal followed soon afterwards when Ciaran Hirrel netted after good fielding by John Campbell.

McCumhaills gradually brought themselves back into the game and hit 1.06 before the break, but two goals from Darrach O Conner, who had a great season with Colaisti Inis Eoghain ensured that Buncrana led by 5.05 to 1.06 at half time.

In the second half the home side dominated for long periods, with the elusive O’Connor bringing his personal goal tally to four by adding another brace and the impressive John Campbell also helped himself to a goal, while John Doherty added a late point with the final result never in doubt, despite Conor Glackin adding a second goal for the Ballybofey side.

Best For Buncrana Were Darach O’Connor, John Campbell and Joseph McGrory. While best For McCumhaills were Conor Glackin and Aaron Kelly.

Congratulations to Rosses Community School who will fly the flag for Donegal after reaching their first Vocational Schools U18 Markey Cup Final in almost 30 years when they defeated Carrick VS by 3.09 to 0.09 last week in the semi final played in Castlederg.  They will now play the winners of the second semi final between St Ciarans Ballygawley and Holy Trinity Cookstown, who are due to meet on Tuesday of this week.
