People across Donegal are being urged to keep their eyes open for art thieves planning to steal valuable pieces of public art.
It follows the theft of a bronze statue along a motorway outside Moate.
Gardai believe the artwork, the Grainne Og, may now have been melted and sold for its bronze value.
Donegal County Council’s Public Art officer is urging people to be vigilant after a piece of public art along a motorway outside Moate was stolen.
Terre Duffy of Donegal County Council says most pieces commissioned here recently are in towns and are very visible.
She’s urging people to challenge and report any suspicious activity
“We would ask the public to keep and eye out to see if anyone is acting suspiciously around any pieces of public art in Donegal. If they do suspect something they should contact the Gardai immediately,” she said.
Among the most famous pieces of Donegal public art are The Hiring Fair at Letterkenny’s Market Square which was sculpted by world renowned Burt-based artist Maurice Harron.
