A BALLYSHANNON native is favourite to take a seat on Sligo Borough Council.

The Fine Gael convention to select the candidate to replace Tony McLoughlin on Sligo Borough Council will take place on Sunday.

Members of the East Ward branch of the party will vote on who should replace Deputy McLoughlin, who has quit his seat after being elected to the Dail.

Ballyshannon man Daniel McGarrigle, who’s a former President of the Students’ Union at Sligo I.T is favourite to get the vacancy.

Mr McGarrigle contested the last Borough Council election in 2009. Nominations for the co-option covention will close on Wednesday.
