IT was a case of mixed fortunes for our senior athletes at the National 10K road championships in the Phoenix Park on Sunday.
Well done to our stalwart, Pauric McKinney who finished first in the Over-45 category. Pauric ran 32.59 to finish 29th overall in what was yet another impressive showing by the Lifford man.
Elsewhere, Paul McGlinchey was next home for the club in a time of 35.05 followed by Kevin Ferry (35.48), Ivan Toner (37.01), Aidan McKenna (38.47), Pauric Friel (39:48), Ciaran O’Donnell (40.02), Glen Duncan (40:20), Neil McCollum (40.32), Daniel Cullen (41:51), Gregory Campbell (43:14) to name just a few.
Well done to our club captain, Gary Crossan who won the Ultra Marathon in Galway at the weekend. Gary had trained very hard for this event and it was a great achievement to win.
Elsewhere, the club had a number of athletes participating in the Finn Valley 5k series on Friday night. The first club man home was Adam Friel (4th-16.28), Garvin Walker (7th 16.42), Kieran McBride (9th-17.03), Humphry Murphy (13th- 17.25), Joe English (17th-17.49), Paddy McDaid (22-17.59), Marcus McClintock (25th-18.18), Adrian Callaghan (32- 18.40), Ben Dunleavy (37th- 18.57), Darren Wallace (41st- 19.04), and Richard Raymond (20.08).
Details of this year’s Donegal Grand Prix Road Series have been announced. The first of the 38 race series will be the increasingly popular North West 10K which takes place in Letterkenny on Sunday, May 1st at 2 pm. The last race in the series takes place on Sunday, September 24th, with the staging of the Orla Memorial 5K in Ards Forest Park. For the full list of races, see our website at lac.ie.
Preparations are continuing for the Easter 3 K and the North West 10k which take place on April 24 and May 2 respectively.
All roads will lead to the North West and the Banks of the Foyle on Wednesday evening April 20th, for the first race in the ever popular Furey Insurances 5K Series,organised in the traditional six race format in Derry and Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula by City of Derry Spartans.
