STRIKE OUT: A Buncrana man has called off plans for a hunger strike at Letterkenny General Hospital after being promised treatment. Martin Gill from Parkmore claimed that he has been seriously ill for three years, but cannot get a diagnosis. The HSE has promised to look at his case again.

REVIEW PROMISE: The Government has promised to review the commercial vehicle tax rules which means van drivers cannot use them for anything other than work. TD Padraig MacLochlainn says the rules are threatening jobs and hitting rural areas where there is no public transport. People leaving kids to school have been stopped by gardai.

SPY WEDNESDAY: Dole spies launched a crackdown on people ‘doing the double’ yesterday….perhaps not seeing the irony that it was ‘Spy Wednesday’! Dole inspectors visited a number of premises in Inishowen to check that workers were not on the live register.

NICKED CAR RECOVERED: A car reported stolen in Galway on Wednesday has been found in Bundoran. One man has been charged with stealing a vehicle and a second man has been charged with three counts of criminal damage to one car in Bundoran and to two vehicles in the Tullaghan area.
