On Sunday last the Portsalon Golf Club staged a fundraising classic and the event attracted a large turnout. The attention on many of the golfers was on the burning which was taking place on Knockall Mountain. The early starters got the best of the weather as a good breeze got up across the Banks mid afternoon. The overall winners were Patrick Mc Fadden, Joe Harrison, James Sandilands and John Sandilands with 89 points, runners up John Shields, Aidan Cannon, Donal Barret and Mary Barrett, with 88 points 3rd Deirdre O’Toole, Jackie Friel, Noreen Mc Conigley and Sean Barrett with 88 points 4th Dana Clinton, Betty Boal, Mae Blaney and Maureen Shannaghan 83 points. The Captain Donal Callaghan would like to express his thanks to all who participated in this fund raising classic. The winner of the Wednesday open staged 27th April was Keith Shields Letterkenny with 42 points, runner up Fergal Mc Donnell (20) 41 points, Gross Stephen Connolly (6) 33 points, 3rd Sam Faulkner (13) 39 points. The CSS was for home players 38 points and away players 36 points.
On Saturday the winner of the open competition was Charlie Hickland (14) 42 points, 2nd Patrick Mc Devitt (16) 42 points, gross John Shields (3) 33 points 3rd Donal Barrett (17) 41 points 4th Joe Harrison (15) 41 points Visitor Kevin Mc Convill 39 points. The CSS was 37 points. On Monday the winner of the open competition was Sam Faulkner (13) 38 points, 2nd Ciaran Mc Fadden (16) 36 points Gross Barry Mc Gettigan (3) 32 points, 3rd Sean Barrett (14) 35 points. The CSS was 34 points.

Members should note that the tee is reserved all day for the Ladies Donegal Shield on Saturday 7th May.
Donegal Links Classic

Mixed Foursomes
The Portsalon mixed foursomes nine hole competitions will be held on Friday 6th May with a 5.45. p.m. tee off.
Ulster Cup
The return leg of the first round of the Ulster Cup was staged at Portsalon on Saturday last. From the first leg the Portsalon team trailed by six matches to one against Blackwood Golf Club the task which lay ahead was enormous. The Portsalon team under the direction of Andy Boland put up a gallant performance and having recorded wins on the opening matches and going on to win the home leg by five matches to two matches which left the overall match result 8 matches to six matches in favour of Blackwood golf club. Team captain Andy Boland would like to thank his team for their commitment over the past two weekends.
Match Play.
Entries are now been taken for the 2011 singles and doubles match play events. In order to have your name included in the dray for both events your entry fee must be paid at the time of entry.
Jimmy Bruen
Ollie Connolly’ s charges in this seasons Jimmy Bruen were in action at Ballybofey on Sunday last. The team failed to qualify on the day. Team captain Ollie Connolly would like to thank the players for their efforts on the day.
Pierce Purell
Under the stewardship of Tony Morrison Portsalon will travel to Newtonstewart Golf Club on Sunday 8th May for the qualifying round of the Pierce Purcell competition
