PORTSALON GOLF CLUB NOTES

Portsalon Golf Club

Barton Cup

One of the oldest golfing events in the North West will be staged on Monday 6th June 2011 at Portsalon Golf Club. The event is the Barton Cup which was first staged in 1899 and has been a regular favourite event for both members and visitors to Portsalon. This is an open match play event. All who are going to participate must have their names entered on the Barton Cup sheet which is available in the clubhouse by Sunday 5th June this will enable the first round draw to take place. The first tee is reserved for this prestigious event and the competition gets underway from early morning. In order to have the matches played all players are asked to be on time. For those defeated in first round of the Barton Cup they will be entered into the Mc Menamin Plate. For further details contact 074 9159459

Results

The windy conditions continued to blow across the Portsalon ‘’Banks’’ over the past few days which left poor conditions for good golf. The results were as follows, on Saturday 21st May Joe Logan was the winner of the gents open with 34 points. On Sunday the winner of the members competition was Michael O’Hara playing off a 20 handicap with 43 points, 2nd Cathal Canning (8) 36 points, Gross Barry Mc Gettigan (3) 30 points. The CSS was 35 points.

Events

On Saturday 28th May there is a gents open 18 hole stableford competition. On Sunday 29th May there is a members competition. As the Donegal Links takes place from 30th May to 1st June the normal Wednesday open will not take place, A time sheet is in operation for all competitions at Portsalon Golf Club, contact 074 91 59459 for your tee time or go online at portsalongolfclub.com

Donegal League

The Portsalon golf club’s Donegal League team teed off on Sunday last in the first round first leg match. The Portsalon team under the leadership of John Logue entertained Redcastle Golf Club. Playing in blusery weather conditions the home team recorded. The return leg is scheduled for Sunday 5th June at Redcastle golf club.

Ulster Fourball

On Saturday the Ulster Fourball team travelled to Nuromore Golf Club Co Monaghan on for the return leg of the first round match. Having won the home leg four matches to one match, the travel was too much for the Portsalon team as they were defeated by five matches to nil.

Donegal Links Classic

Members should note that the Donegal Links Classic commences on Monday 30th May and the tee will be reserved on Monday 30th May, Tuesday 31ts May and Wednesday 1st June for the competition.

Portsalon 300 Members Dray

The May draw of the Portsalon Golf Club Members draw was held recently. The winners were €400 Phillip Durning ,€300 Anne Mc Ginley, €200 Clive Davidson and €100 each to Neil trulson, Helena Mc Cambridge and Suzzie Sweeney .

Over 50

The Portsalon over 50’s match which was due to be played on Monday 23rd was cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.

Match Play.

Entries are now been taken for the 2011 singles and doubles match play events. In order to have your name included in the dray for both events your entry fee must be paid at the time of entry.

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance.
