Bundoran Town Council yesterday abandoned its monthly meeting – over a mobile phone.

The monthly meeting of authority was adjourned yesterday after the Mayor ordered the Town Clerk to contact the Gardai to attend the meeting.

Councillor Michael McMahon told members of the council he would adjourn the July meeting if members of the public-attending the meeting did not adhere to the standing orders of the council.

Fine Gael Councillor Denice Connolly told the members of the council that she witnessed a member of the public taking out a mobile phone while the council meeting was in process.

The Town Clerk told the Councillors, the public and media that anyone in breach of the standing orders of the council will be asked to leave the meetings.

The meeting was adjourned after a five minute break. It will recommence on Thursday.
