The village of Maghery west of Dungloe Town, once famous for its king, will be the headquarters for a new adventure event on Saturday 30th July.
The Mary from Dungloe International Festival in partnership with the Dungloe GAA Club have this year introduced an adventure challenge as part of the programme.
Sponsored by well-known Dungloe solicitor Paddy Sweeney, the Martello Adventure Event will provide a physical and mental challenge for all abilities of athletes.
It will be run over some of the most scenic areas in west Donegal taking in along the route Clendra Hill (famous for the Mass Rock) Traigh Eanach Bay, Meenacross, Falmore, Crohey Head and Maghery.
This fun event is open to all and will include age categories for men and women and is also open to teams of two or three participants to get together for the challenge.
The event which includes in this order a 5 k run, 20 k cycle and a 350 meter water based challenge on Maghery beach will cater for swimmers and non swimmers.
Speaking at the press launch for the event main sponsor Paddy Sweeney, solicitor said that he was delighted to support this innovative physical challenge.
He said that the country has seen a huge growth in adventure events which challenge the body and the mind and that it was great to see the growth of an event in the Rosses area.
He hoped that this event would add significantly to the programme of events being planned for the Mary from Dungloe Festival.
In addition to the category prizes each finisher will also receive a specially designed medal and be provided with post event refreshments.
Registration will take place on the day from 2pm however pre registration can also be completed on the Run Ireland website.
