THE GREAT SKY TV DONEGAL RIP-OFF – DONEGALDAILY READERS FIGHT BACK

INVESTIGATION: SKY TV viewers across County Donegal are fighting back against the great rip-off exposed yesterday by donegaldaily.com.

We revealed how customers here are paying up to €250 a year more for inferior Sky services compared to customers just across the Border in the North.

But YOU – our loyal readers – are refusing to take this rip-off lying down.

And many of you have either dumped Sky or managed to squeeze deals out of them.

Reader Sharon McNulty has had enough.

She told us: “Just don’t bother getting it, or get rid of it as simple as that. I had it and got rid of it, it was the best thing that I did and now my kids don’t miss it and they play outside so much more and the money I save by not having it goes into an account for their college so don’t tell me you have to have it!”

Daniel rang up to complain after seeing the price comparison on donegaldaily.com.

He told us: “It’s simple. Ring them and inform them you are leaving. I got a free upgrade to sky plus, two years free hd channels and three months where I only had to pay for the basic package even though I have sports and movies, all from one phone call.”

Campaigner Ryan Stewart told us: “Sky counter the argument saying they have a higher cost base in the republic due to higher minimum wage etc, but in the north you get a phone package, broadband with sky talk etc also thrown in, where as here we pay around €60 a month for crap broadband on top of the €75 a month sky package.

“Then look at the pay-per-view prices too – around 25% dearer as well, and it’s always the scotland office that puts it through, extra dosh just for pressing a button!!!”

And Andrew Brolly used our story to get himself a big discount.

He revealed: “Just seen the Sky rip off article on your website. I Have the full Sky package …I called Sky to cancel Sky completely and told them it was too expensive, especially in comparison with NI.

“At the last stage of cancellation, they offered me half price Sky for 6 months. I’m now paying €38 instead of €76 per month for Sky World.

“I will be phoning them at the end of the 6 months again! I’d recommend that everyone call and threaten to cancel!”

John McAteer insisted: “Sky has become away too expensive but then again just look at who owns the company! Do we really need Sky, especially since Saorview from RTE is going to provide a big range of extra channels.

“How many Sky channels do we watch? We should all be looking at the cost and it is horrendous.”

Let’s keep the donegaldaily.com campaign going. Keep ringing. Keep complaining…and keep telling us what reaction you get. Leave your comments in the comment box below and we’ll pass on all your tips.
