DANIEL SERENADES MAJELLA AS HE DESCRIBES WEDDING AS BEST DAY OF HIS LIFE

Hopeless romantic Daniel O’Donnell serenaded his wife in the same church where the couple tied the knot almost nine years ago.

But the singer had more than 400 fans for company at his intimate ‘date’ with Majella at St Mary’s Church in Kincasslagh.

The star performed a special concert to kick off the Donegal Shore Festival which many locals are now dubbing ‘Danielfest.’

Daniel, 49, sang the same wedding song which he sang to Majella on November 4th, 2002 after the couple said ‘I do.’

Daniel revealed “That was the happiest day of my life and the best thing I ever did.”

Concert organisers had to receive special permission to stage the concert at the church and the Blessed Sacrament was removed to nearby Burtonport Church for the evening.

Among those who attended was Daniel’s good friend Fr Brian Darcy while Bishop of Raphoe, Dr.Philip Boyce couldn’t make it because of diocesan duties.

Daniel also revealed how his beloved mother could not make the concert either as she had been unwell recently but was feeling much better now.

“She’s knitting socks and in good form. She knitted a of pair socks and sent away them away to the Pope. They were white socks….and god help him if he doesn’t reply,” said Daniel.

Fans travelled from as far away as America, New Zealand, Australia and the UK for the concert and for the rest of the festival which continues until Sunday.

Organisers spent days getting the church ready for the evening and used dozens of candles to light up the church.

Those who couldn’t get tickets for the concert were able to listen to the evening on the church’s own radio system which broadcast the show.

Among the songs which Daniel sang on the night included Ave Maria, Our Lady of Knock and Open Up Those Pearly Gates.
