THIS is the 12-year-old boy who swam across Lough Swilly at the weekend – to raise money for charity.
David McGinley swam from Rathmullan Pier to Buncrana Pier along with five adults in aid the Alzhemiers Charity.
The swim was also to highlight the need for the Buncrana swimming pool which local people are fighting to keep open.
Said Evelyn McGinley: “This was a big acheivement for someone so young but a sign of the future, David at the present trains with our Local Swimming Club IASC. in Buncrana Leisure Centre.
“This is obviously a facility that has a lot to offer the youth Of Buncrana but at present is unrecognised.
“This year along with other swimmers who reached the national finals in Community Games in swimming Mary Doherty of Cockhill Rd was one of the few bringing home a silver medal, along with other medals and strong placings.
“Hopefully with the support of the Buncrana Community and the surrounding areas we can come together and support the Leisure Centre in its task to save the pool as it has alot to offer our youths of today.”
