Fine Gael TD Joe McHugh has confirmed to donegaldaily.com that a new Rapid Access Prostate Cancer Clinic will open at Letterkenny General Hospital in three weeks.
Deputy McHugh told donegaldaily.com: “A new Rapid Access Prostate Cancer Clinic will open at Letterkenny General Hospital on Friday 4th November.
“This Clinic will be incorporated with the UCHG Hospital in Galway, and will cater for at least 150 Donegal men every year.
“Today, Donegal men referred to the Rapid Access Prostate Clinic in Galway must travel from the county to Galway at least four times before a diagnosis and staging of prostate cancer can be made.
“This new Letterkenny clinic will eliminate this journey time for Donegal patients. This Government is committed to delivering health services in the community, whilst maintaining best practise. Letterkenny’s new Rapid Access Prostate Cancer Clinic will facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of Donegal prostate cancer patients in the local community.”
He added: “I compliment Letterkenny General Hospital’s leadership for working to secure this service, which will coordinated by Mr. Eamon Rogers, Consultant Urologist, UCHG.”
Minister for Health James Reilly TD told us: “This Government is committed to delivering excellent care as near to the patient as is practicable. Letterkenny’s new Rapid Access Prostate Cancer Clinic will facilitate this and the men of Donegal can rely on rapid diagnosis and treatement of prostate cancer.”
