BREAKING NEWS: This is the young Donegal man fighting for his life following an unexplained incident in Derry last night.

The man, 19 year old Caolan Page from Killea, was found in an unconscious state with serious head injuries on Magazine Street in the city centre.

Caolan had been drinking with friends in a bar before the incident happened.

The man was found by passers-by around 2am.

Earlier reports had suggested the victim had passed away but the PSNI say he is still in a critical condition and is being visited by his family.

It is understood the emergency services initially thought he had fallen from Derry’s walls in what was believed to be a tragic accident.

But it is now believed the PSNI are now examining the possibility that he may have been set upon.

The victim was a pupil of St Columb’s College in Derry and had repeated his A Levels

A PSNI spokesman confirmed a man was found outside a licensed premises but said “At this stage, it is still not known how the man received his injuries.”

They have also appealed to anybody who may have witnessed anything to come forward and contact Strand Road police.
