Police have played down an arrest of a man in connection with the death of Donegal teenager Caolan Page.

The 19 year old from Carrigans was found unconscious with serious head injuries in the early hours of Saturday morning last in Derry.

He died in Altnagelvin Hospital the following day and police launched an immediate investigation.

It has emerged that a 19 year old man was arrested as part of the overall investigation but has been released on police bail.

A spokesman said “That was simply part of the overall investigation and we are not placing too much emphasis on that,” he said.

He added that they are still examining CCTV footage and also the results of a post mortem before making any further statement.

“At this stage we cannot say if Caolan’s death was as the result of an accident or something else.

“We are still keeping an open mind on his death until such time that we can say for certain what happened to him,” said a spokesman.

Meanwhile Caolan’s body has been released to his family for burial.

A source close to his family said they now believe Caolan’s death may have been accidental.
