We understand that the Board were informed of the decision and took the view that the Donegal manager was right to remove the Gaoth Dobhair man from the county panel.
A source said: “Jim’s in charge of team affairs. Simple as that. The Board would never interfere and have given Jim their full support.”
The reason for the decision was because Cassidy had given a journalist details of the pre-match tactics of Donegal. And not because of the verbal attack on his predecessor.
Cassidy has released a statement today to the Gaelic Life newspaper.
On the issue of John Joe Doherty’s management, he said: “I’m not trying to get at anybody. I spoke to John Joe and Tony (Boyle). When we discussed it I assured them I did not set out to hurt anyone or be negative.
“What was in the book was how I felt at the time and that was it. I decided (the participation in the book) was going to be honest and how I saw things and felt there was no point leaving things out to be nice to this person and that.”
