‘Moving On’ is a DVD of very significant short films, cartoons and documentaries devised and produced by young people with physical disabilities from all over Donegal.
The DVD was launched as part of “One Donegal Cultural Diversity Month 2011″ by Mr Jim McGuiness, Manager of the Donegal Senior Football Team.
The DVD highlights the capabilities and strengths of project participants and to enable the community to become more open and accepting of diversity and change.
Through the magic medium of film, these future Spielbergs have been able to have their say about everything, from using their strengths, refusal to allow barriers to stand in their way, and dealing with every day challenges that face young people. Expect the unexpected, from a wrestling film, a quirky animation about aliens, to a very poignant short documentary.
Amanda Doyle, Keyworker for Children, HSE Donegal Physical and Sensory Disabilities services led the “Moving On” project. She noted, “It was the motivation and the ability of the participants to think outside the box that led to the success of the project. Those involved are positive role models and advocates for all in communities that face diversity and challenges in their daily lives. They are truly inspirational!”
“The ‘Moving On’ project gave opportunity to the participants to enhance personal development skills such as confidence, assertiveness and increasing their self esteem. It also enabled all the opportunity to develop public speaking skills, positive decision making and conflict resolution skills. The project was also a way of building new friendships, establishing peer support and most importantly, having fun.”
The DVDs will be distributed to schools, community and youth groups and other relevant organisations for use as part of disability awareness training. For more information, please contact Amanda Doyle at 087 9912679 or emailamanda.doyle@hse.ie.
