The Buncrana priest whose church was basted by lightning this week has revealed it is the SECOND time he has cheated serious injury.

Fr Rafal Janusewski of Cockhill Church kept a cool head when a highly-charged bolt of lightning struck the church during mass on Tuesday last during 7.30pm mass.

Damage was caused to fuseboxes and sacristan Bridget Allen lost her hearing temporarily as a result of the huge bang.

Now Fr Janusewski has revealed the same thing happened to him five years ago in his native Poland.

He said “Our whole lives are a miracle, but this was a normal miracle…a daily miracle if you will.

“We finished the mass with candles.”

The ESB has been carrying out repairs to the church all week following the bolt from the heavens.

There was several incidents in Buncrana during the heavy electrical storm.

Footballers had to be evacuated from a football pitch when lightning scorched the ground while people also had to flee form a local swimming pool when the building was hit.
