LETTERKENNY is set to hold Ireland’s first urban mountain biking competition after the proposal was backed last night by the town council.
Donegal Mountain Bike Club Chairman Findhan Strain gave a presentation to councillors on a proposal to hold an Urban Downhill event in the town in early 2012.
Mr Strain said aftewards: “This would not only be an unique event in Donegal but also on the island of Ireland. The provisional date for the event will be held on the Bank Holiday Monday on May 7th 2012.
“The proposal met with overall approval from all council members who were delighted to hear such an innovative idea being brought to the table. Hopefully in the next few weeks now, the club will have more details on a Major sponsor which they hope to bring on board to aid the event.
“Aside from attractng major international Sponsors, this Event will bring some of the top Downhill bikers from all over Ireland as it’s probably the first of it’s kind to be held on these shores.”
